 Installation of Ubuntu OS in VMware Workstation


1. Download and Installation of VMware Workstation:

Open a Web Browser and search for “download VMware workstation” and hit enter.


Click on the second link for VMware Workstation Player.

Then scroll down the website for download link for windows. You can also use VMware on Linux.

The download gets started


Once the download process finishes, open the Setup file.


Click “next” to continue.

Select the checkbox saying “I accept the terms in the License Agreement” and click “Next”.


Select the destination where you want to install VMware workstation. Check the both boxes and click “Next”.


In the User Experience Settings, Click “next”.

Select where you want the shortcuts for the VMware application and click “Next”.


Click “Install”




After the installation process completes, Click “Finish”.


Restart your system for the configuration changes to VMware Player to take effect.


After Restarting the system. Open VMware Player.

Press the Windows logo in the keyboard and type “VMware” and hit enter.


The VMware Workstation Player launches.




Download and installation of Ubuntu in VMware Player

 

Open a browser and search “download ubuntu for vmware” and hit enter.



Click on the first link called “Get Ubuntu” and open it. Click on  “Ubuntu Desktop”


A new page opens and scroll down. Next to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Click the “Download” button.



The download starts.

 


Once the download process completes. Open the VMware Workstation.


On the right tab of the application, click on “Create a New Virtual Machine”.  A new dialog bog opens up to add Virtual Machine. Click on browse and go to the file location where you downloaded the setup file.


Browse to the file location where you downloaded the iso file. Then select the ubuntu iso file and click “open”.


The new Virtual Machine Wizard detects the Operating system. Then click “next”.

Enter the information in the given field. The information is useful in installing Ubuntu Operating System.


Give name of the Operating System as “Ubuntu 64-bit” and change the file location by clicking “Browse”.



In “Browse For Folder” dialog, Browse to “C:\Users\ajays” (your device may have different name). Scroll down to find the “vmware” folder and single click it. The “vmware” folder gets selected.


Then click the “Make new folder” button and rename the folder name to “Ubuntu”.


Single click the “Ubuntu” folder and then click “Ok”.



Then click “Next”



Specify the amount of disk size for Ubuntu Operating System. The recommended size is 20 GB. You can either store the virtual disk in multiple files or in a single file. Here we are going for multiple files.

 


The wizard is ready to create the virtual machine. You can customize the settings of the virtual machine by clicking “Customize Hardware”. Then click on “Finish”.




The “Ubuntu 64-bit player” opens up automatically.




After start up, a dialog opens up automatically and it starts to install Ubuntu.

 


The installation takes few minutes to complete. After installation, the login screen shows up. The login screen displays the name of the user which we setup up earlier. 



Click on user and enter your password which you have set earlier. After login, the desktop shows up. 



Thus, the installation of Ubuntu Operating System on VMware is complete.
